Vice President Operations Services, Martin Marietta (Retired)

William A. (Tony) DiRico was the Vice President of Operations Services for Martin Marietta, a leading supplier of aggregates and building materials in North America, where he retired after a more than twenty-year career. Tony was born and raised in Giles, County, Virginia, just a short distance from Virginia Tech. In 1979 he earned his B.S. degree from Virginia Tech’s Mining and Minerals Engineering department.

Upon graduation, Tony worked in the coal industry for the Consolidation Coal Company and later at Contract Surface Coal Mining, where served in numerous management and engineering positions to include Regional Environmental Engineer for Consolidation’s Southern Appalachian Region and Supervisor and Manager at Contract’s Wise County, VA, operations. In 1984 he  joined the Arch Mineral Corporation as a Surface Mine Supervisor, where he went on to serve as mine manager for its Wylo and Ruffner surface operations, and eventually served as president. In 1994 he was the owner and president of the Acme Limestone/Superior Concrete Company. Tony joined Martin Marietta in 2000 where he was first its Southeast Division’s Regional Vice President and President, and later became the company’s Vice President of Engineering and Vice President of Operations Services.

Tony is a certified Professional Engineer in Virginia and West Virginia, and he holds a Professional Surveying License for West Virginia. He is an active member of numerous industry-related associations, to include the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME), the American Society of Civil Engineers, the International Society of Explosives Engineers, the National Stone, Sand, and Gravel Association. In addition to his serving on the Virginia Tech Mining and Minerals Engineering department Advisory Board, he is a former President and Board Member of the Georgia Construction Aggregates Association.

Tony and his wife, Teri, are the proud parents of two sons: Kaleb, who holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson and serves as an area production manager for Martin Marietta in Richmond, VA; and Tyler, a graduate of Marshall University’s Business Management Program and is currently an account manager with Ryder Systems, Inc.
