Richard Bishop

Financial Analyst, Industry Consultant

Mr. Bishop is a mining engineer and financial analyst with industry experience in gold, molybdenum, titanium, tungsten, iron ore, PGM’s, aggregates and phosphate, as well as experience in corporate finance, mineral exploration, international project startup, mine and plant operations, permitting, mine planning, surface & underground mine engineering, mineral process engineering and transport systems engineering.

He is the former Vice President of Investments with Aberdeen International and a former precious metals equity research analyst with RBC Capital Markets, both global investment firms based in Toronto. Mr. Bishop has served on the board of several Canadian mining companies, including Portex Minerals in Portugal and Spain, and was the founding President and CEO of two junior mining companies, Legacy Platinum in South Africa and Ferro Iron Ore in Mongolia. Prior to his executive roles, he worked as an engineer for Mosaic, Iluka Resources, Granite, as well as a project manager for Harrison Western, where he completed underground mine development and infrastructure projects for Freeport, Barrick and many other senior and junior mining companies. He is currently an Advisor to Aerecura Capital, a resource investment and advisory firm based in Toronto.

He holds Bachelors and Masters of Science degrees in Mining Engineering from Virginia Tech, and a graduate certificate in Mining Engineering from the European Mining Course in Finland, England, Germany, and the Netherlands. He has also completed graduate courses in Economics at the University of South Florida and Mineral Economics at the Colorado School of Mines and is certified by the Canadian Securities Institute. He is currently pursuing a PhD in mining engineering at Virginia Tech.

Mr. Bishop is an active member of the Society of Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME), the Canadian Institute of Mining (CIM), the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and the Society of Mining Professors (SOMP). He is a past Chairman of the SME Young Leaders Committee as well as the Florida Section of SME. He has served as a Technical Session Chair at the SME Annual Conference and the Conference Chair of the SME Annual Phosphate Conference in Florida. He has received numerous professional awards, including the Virginia Tech Outstanding Young Alumnus Award, the SME Outstanding Young Professional Award, and a Pit & Quarry Magazine Engineering Award. His hobby in photography has earned him multiple contest awards from the SME. He has been serving on the Mining Industry Advisory Board since 2014.
