Department of Mining & Minerals Engineering

Careers in Mining

At 100%, Virginia Tech's Mining & Minerals Engineering program has the highest job placement rate at the university.
A large part of this success is the result of the department’s extensive recruiting program.

Recruiter interview

Recruiter Visits

Throughout the academic year, recruiters from mining and minerals engineering companies visit our department to interview directly with students.Recruiters hire for full-time permanent positions as well as summer jobs, internships and co-ops.

Early in the fall semester students are required to submit a professional resume which is then distributed to all recruiters visiting the department. This helps recruiters get to know job candidates in advance and also allows students to express their career and summer job desires. More information about writing resumes is found below.

To interview with a company, students must sign up at the main office (100 Holden Hall). Recruiter interview schedules for the current academic year can be found below. Check schedules regularly to stay up-to-date on upcoming interviews, new additions, time changes or cancelations.

Non-Visiting Recruiters

Each semester there are a number of companies interested in hiring our students but are unable to interview at the department. Like the visiting recruiters, these companies receive copies of our students’ resumes.

Recruiter Information

To be successful in the hiring process, it is important to have a basic knowledge about the employer and the company which you would like to work for. One way to do this is to attend the info sessions provided by recruiters on the day before the interviews. Another way is to research an individual company.
