Department Centennial

Beginning in the Fall of 2008, Virginia Tech's Department of Mining & Minerals Engineering is celebrating its Centennial Academic Year. While degrees in mining engineering had been awarded as early as 1885, it was not until the fall of 1908 that the doors opened to an official “Department of Mining Engineering.”

To mark this important milestone in the department's history, we plan to celebrate throughout the academic year with special events and activities. Check back frequently at this Centennial web page to find out about upcoming events, department tours and possible lectures.
