Asa Weber, Director of Flotation Products for FLSmidth Minerals, USA, and a graduate of the both the department’s BS and MS programs, has been named this year’s Distinguished Alumnus. He is a graduate of both the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs, having earned his BS degree in 1984 and MS degree in 1988.
Weber was presented with the Distinguished Alumni award by Massey Professor Jerry Luttrell at the mining and mineral engineering department’s alumni reception, held during the SME Annual Conference and Expo in Denver, Colorado in February.
Weber has almost 25 years of experience working in a wide range of major mining processing equipment companies, to include Consol, BHP, Rio Tinto, Anglo American, Newmont Gold, Kinross, FMI, VALE, Mosaic, Impala, Antofagasta Minerals, Anglo Gold, Codelco, Grupo Mexico, Qinghai Potash, Shell, Anhui Copper, Falconbridge, and Tisco.
For the last 10 years he has worked at the international company, FLSmidth Minerals, and because of his leadership and commitment within the company, Weber has been able to provide the department’s processing research team with a number of significant R&D projects from FLSmidth.
